Guillaume Pitron est journaliste et documentariste, et un expert reconnu sur les sujets de la transition énergétique, de l’exploitation des métaux rares et des enjeux géopolitiques liés au climat.
À ce jour, Guillaume a réalisé plus d’une centaine de reportages, enquêtes et documentaires réalisés dans plus de 40 pays.
Il étudie plus particulièrement le parcours et l’exploitation des matières premières à travers le globe, comme le pétrole extrait en Alaska, la gomme arabique au Soudan, ou encore la possibilité de réouverture des mines en France.
Guillaume Pitron a été juriste avant de devenir journaliste pour Le Monde Diplomatique, Geo et National Geographic.
Il a parcouru le continent africain, et notamment l’Afrique du Sud, où il a été correspondant de presse et a réalisé plusieurs documentaires dont : « Avec les migrants africains en route pour Johannesburg » (2012), « Éthiopie, géant aux pieds d’argile » (2014).
Après 6 ans d’enquête, Guillaume a publié en 2018 l’essai géopolitique « La guerre des métaux rares – La face cachée de la transition énergétique et numérique » (Éditions LLL), récemment traduit en anglais.
Il a reçu le prix du livre d’économie 2018 et le prix Turgot du meilleur livre d’économie financière de l’année 2018.
En 2019, il présente avec son co-réalisateur Jean-Louis Pérez le film documentaire « Le côté obscur des énergies vertes », co-produit par les chaînes Arte et la RTBF, lors du Sunny Side of the Doc à la Rochelle.
Guillaume Pitron est lauréat de 14 prix français et étrangers, dont le prix Erik Izraelewicz de l’enquête économique et le grand prix BFM Business du livre d’économie.
Il intervient régulièrement auprès de grandes entreprises et lors d’évènements en tant que conférencier.
Il est diplômé d’un DEA des universités de Paris et d’un Master de droit à l’université de Georgetown (USA).
