Né à Pesaro en 1962, le Dr Roberto Burioni est diplômé en médecine et chirurgie de l’Université catholique du Sacré-Cœur de Rome et a obtenu son doctorat en sciences microbiologiques et virologiques à l’Université de Gênes. Il a travaillé auprès des Centres de contrôle et de prévention des maladies à Atlanta et du Wistar Institute de l’Université de Pennsylvanie en tant qu’étudiant chercheur. Il a également été chercheur scientifique au Centre de génétique moléculaire de l’Université de Californie et chercheur invité au Scripps Immunology Department du Research Institute La Jolla en California.
Le Dr Roberto Burioni a été chercheur à la polyclinique Gemelli de l’Université catholique du Sacré-Cœur de Rome, avant de rejoindre la Faculté de médecine de l’Université d’Ancône, où il a occupé le poste de président de la Chaire de virologie à la Faculté des sciences. Depuis 2004, il travaille à la Faculté de médecine et de chirurgie de l’Université Vita-Salute San Raffaele de Milan, d’abord en tant que professeur agrégé, puis en tant que professeur titulaire de microbiologie et de virologie.
