Yanis Varoufakis a été nommé ministre des Finances de la Grèce en 2015.
Varoufakis a enseigné l’économie et l’économétrie à l’Université d’Essex et à l’Université d’East Anglia. En 1988, il a passé une année à l’Université de Cambridge en tant que Fellow. De 1989 à 2000, il a enseigné l’économie en tant que maître de conférences au Département d’économie de l’Université de Sydney et en 2000, il a accepté une offre pour devenir professeur de Théorie Économique à l’Université d’Athènes.
De 2004 à 2006, Yanis Varoufakis a été le conseiller économique de George Papandreou, alors chef de l’opposition de 2004 à 2006.
En 2012, Varoufakis est devenu économiste chez Valve Corporation.
Il a fait des recherches sur l’économie virtuelle sur la plate-forme digitale Steam, en examinant plus particulièrement les taux de change et les déficits commerciaux.
De 2013 à 2014, il a enseigné à la Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs de l’Université du Texas à Austin en tant que professeur associé.
Le 25 janvier 2015, Yanis Varoufakis a été nommé ministre des Finances par le Premier ministre Alexis Tsipras après la victoire électorale de Syriza aux élections législatives. Varoufakis a démissionné de ses fonctions de ministre des Finances le 6 juillet 2015.
Yanis Varoufakis a étudié l’économie au Royaume-Uni, à l’Université d’Essex.
