Le professeur Mohan Munasinghe est un physicien, universitaire et économiste originaire du Sri Lanka, spécialisé en énergie, en ressources en eau, en développement durable et en changement climatique. Il a été vice-président du Groupe d’experts intergouvernemental sur l’évolution du climat des Nations Unies (GIEC) et a partagé le prix Nobel 2007 avec Al Gore, pour ses travaux sur le réchauffement climatique et le développement durable.
Aujourd’hui, Mohan préside le Munasinghe Institute of Development au Sri Lanka, il est Directeur général du Sustainable Consumption Institute (SCI), professeur émérite à l’Université de Manchester, ainsi que professeur au Vale Sustainable Development Institute (Université fédérale du Para, Brésil). Il siège au conseil d’administration de Green Cross International et est membre du Club de Rome. Il est également le conseiller principal du gouvernement du Sri Lanka sur la croissance économique durable.
Au cours de ses 35 ans de carrière, il a été tour à tour conseiller principal en énergie auprès du président du Sri Lanka, membre du Conseil du président des États-Unis sur la qualité de l’environnement et conseiller principal de la Banque mondiale.
Il a enseigné dans de nombreuses universités à travers le monde et a remporté un grand nombre de prix et de distinctions internationales pour ses recherches et leurs mises en application. Il est l’auteur de 97 livres et de plus de trois cent cinquante articles scientifiques dédiés à l’environnement.
