Entre 1995 et 2007, Thomas Castaignède joue 54 fois pour l’équipe de France de rugby. Le « Petit Prince », comme on l’appelait, est un joueur de rugby avec un talent immense. Son flair et ses cheveux souvent décolorés le rendaient très reconnaissable.
Quand il rejoint Saracens en 2000, il a déjà comme réputation d’être l’un des joueurs les plus talentueux d’Europe, sinon du monde. Lors de ses débuts pendant le tournoi des Cinq Nations en 1995, il inscrit le drop qui permet à la France de battre l’Angleterre dans les dernières minutes du match et de le révéler sur la scène mondiale. Plein de culot, il réussit à s’imposer au Stade Toulousain avec lequel il remporte quatre titres de champion de France, et avec l’équipe nationale avec laquelle il gagne deux Grand Chelem. Après son départ pour le club anglais des Saracens en 2000, il se blesse gravement au tendon d’Achille et met fin à sa carrière en 2007.
Depuis, M. Castaignède met le rugby entre parenthèses. Même s’il est encore consultant pour Canal + et pour le journal anglais The Guardian, il décide de se reconvertir dans la finance et travaille désormais pour la Société générale. Il est devenu « broker » à la City, le fameux quartier d’affaires londonien.
