Lorenzo Bini Smaghi est président de la banque française Société Générale et est un ancien membre du Conseil d’administration de la Banque Centrale Européenne entre 2005 et 2011. Durant cette période, il s’occupe des relations internationales de la zone Euro et la représente aux G7 et G20.
Monsieur Lorenzo Bini Smaghi commence sa carrière en 1983 en tant qu’économiste au département Recherche de la Banque d’Italie. En 1994, il est nommé responsable de la Direction des Politiques de l’Institut Monétaire Européen. En octobre 1998, il devient directeur général des relations financières internationales au sein du Ministère de l’Economie et des Finances d’Italie. Il est président de SACE de 2001 à 2005.
Il est actuellement chercheur invité au Weatherhead Center de Harvard pour les affaires internationales et Senior Research Fellow à l’Institut Affari Internazionali à Rome.
Il est également président du Conseil de SACE Spa, et membre du conseil de Finmeccanica , MTS et la Banque européenne d’investissement. Il est titulaire d’une Licence en économie de l’Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgique), d’une maîtrise de l’Université de Californie du Sud et d’un doctorat de l’Université de Chicago.
