Red Hong Yi est une artiste contemporaine sino-malaysienne qui exprime son héritage issu de la diaspora chinoise à travers ses œuvres.
Surnommée « l’artiste qui peint sans pinceaux », elle crée des installations artistiques hybrides en réutilisant des objets et des matériaux issus de notre quotidien, assemblés par accumulation et créant ainsi des œuvres surprenantes. Red Hong Yi est diplômé de l’Université de Melbourne. Ses œuvres ont été exposées au H Queens à Hong Kong, l’Asian Art Museum à San Francisco, au Forum Économique Mondial à Davos et au Anchorage Museum en Alaska. Parmi ses collectionneurs figurent JP Morgan Chase Bank et l’acteur Jackie Chan. Son art a été publié dans les pages du Wall Street Journal, TIME Magazine et le New York Times.
En 2018, Red apparait dans la campagne publicitaire de JP Morgan Chase, « Gift for Baba », dans laquelle elle interprète son propre rôle d’artiste. Dans ce spot publicitaire, on peut la voir compléter une œuvre composée de feuilles de thé. Il a été diffusé à travers toute l’Amérique du Nord lors de certains des plus grands événements sportifs de l’année, notamment le Super Bowl LII, vu par 103,4 millions de téléspectateurs, et la Coupe du monde 2018, vue par 1,98 million de téléspectateurs par match en moyenne.
