Dirigeant le projet ‘Solar Impulse’ avec Bertrand Piccard, André Borschberg a fait de l’aéroplane solaire à autonomie illimité une réalité en réunissant les équipes techniques, de design et de test et construction des deux prototypes ainsi qu’en organisant les missions de vol.
Le résultat n’est autre que la réalisation du premier tour du monde en aéroplane solaire sans utiliser une seule goutte de carburant. En plus de concevoir cet avion révolution et de le piloter autour du globe, André Borschberg a permis l’évolution de la technologie de l’aviation vers des solutions nouvelles et éco-énergétiques qui vont servir et transformer de nombreuses industries.
En 2015, pendant l’étape reliant le Japon à Hawaï, M. Borschberg survole pour la première fois l’Océan Pacifique pendant 5 jours et 5 nuits sans interruption, battant ainsi le recours du monde du plus long vol en solitaire réalisé dans un aéroplane.
