Augusto Lopez-Claros est un économiste reconnu qui possède plus de 30 ans d’expérience dans des organisations internationales, dont plus récemment à la Banque mondiale. De 2018 à 2019, Augusto Lopez-Claros a été Senior Fellow à la Edmund Walsh School of Foreign Service de l’Université de Georgetown.
De 2011 and 2017, il a dirigé le Groupe des indicateurs mondiaux de la Banque mondiale, le département en charge du rapport Doing Business de la Banque et différents bureaux d’études comparatives mondiales. Auparavant, il a été économiste en chef et directeur du programme sur la compétitivité mondiale au Forum économique mondial de Genève, où il a également été le rédacteur en chef du rapport sur la compétitivité mondiale, la publication la plus attendue du Forum, ainsi que de plusieurs rapports économiques régionaux. Avant de rejoindre le Forum, il a travaillé pendant plusieurs années dans le secteur de la finance à Londres, notamment sur les marchés émergents. Il a été le représentant du Fonds monétaire international en Fédération de Russie dans les années 90.
Avant de rejoindre le FMI, Augusto Lopez-Clarosna été professeur d’économie à l’Université du Chili à Santiago. Il a obtenu un diplôme en statistiques mathématiques de l’Université de Cambridge et un doctorat en économie de l’Université Duke. Plus récemment, il a publié « Removing Impediments to Sustainable Economic Development : The Case of Corruption » (2015), « Fiscal Challenges After the Global Financial Crisis : A Survey of Key Issues » (2014) et « The Moral Dimension of the Fight Against Corruption » (2017).
En mai 2018, la Fondation suédoise Global Challenges a décerné à Augusto Lopez-Claros le prix New Shape pour son étude « Gouvernance mondiale et émergence d’institutions mondiales pour le 21e siècle » (en collaboration avec Arthur Dahl and Maja Groff). St. Martin’s Press vient de publier son dernier livre (co-écrit avec Bahiyyih Nakhjavani), « Equality for Women = Prosperity for All ».
