Après deux titres de champion du monde et plus de 500 matchs à la tête de l’équipe de France, Daniel Costantini est l’artisan indiscutable du succès du handball tricolore.
Ancien entraîneur à Marseille, en 1985, il reprend les rênes de l’équipe de France en panne de succès internationaux. C’est alors le début d’une grande passion qui va durer 16 ans. Une première récompense arrive en 1992 : l’équipe de France repart avec la médaille de bronze des J.O. de Barcelone. En 1993, elle est vice championne du monde.
En changeant radicalement les habitudes prises, c’est en 1995 que notre homme conduira son équipe à la consécration mondiale avec le titre de Champion du monde de handball masculin, avec une équipe de fortes personnalités, surnommés « Les Barjots », avec à sa tête le génie Jackson Richardson.
Pour sa dernière compétition, Daniel Costantini reconduit l’équipe de France à la médaille d’or lors des Championnats du monde 2001.
Membre du comité de parrainage de la Coordination française pour la Décennie de la culture de paix et de non-violence, l’ancien entraîneur de l’équipe de France occupe, à présent, des fonctions de consultant à RMC Info, Eurosport et France Télévision. C’est également un conférencier d’une grande simplicité, très abordable, qui aime partager son expérience et occupe la scène comme son équipe a occupé le terrain.
