Luc Alphand est un sportif touche à tout. Après s’être illustré en ski, il se reconvertit dans le sport automobile, comme commentateur sportif et enfin comme navigateur.
Lorsque Luc Alphand raccroche ses skis en 1997, l’enfant de Serre-Chevalier est au sommet de son art. Il vient de remporter le Globe de Cristal du classement général, alors qu’il ne concourt que dans les épreuves de vitesses…
Entre 1995 et 1997, Luc Alphand remporte douze victoires en Coupe du monde et trois Coupes du monde de descente. À 32 ans, il a remporté le Globe de cristal et il est élu « champion des champions » par le journal l’Équipe. En pleine lumière, il met un terme à sa carrière de skieur en 1997.
En 1998, il dispute son premier Paris-Dakar. Après avoir remporté la Coupe du monde des rallyes-raids T1 en 1999, il gagne en 2001 et 2002 le rallye du Maroc en T2. Luc Alphand gagne le Dakar en 2006 sur Mitsubishi avec son copilote Gilles Picard et se classe second en 2007. De 2001 à 2008, il crée également sa propre écurie « Luc Alphand Aventures » pour courir aux 24 heures du Mans.
Sa bonne étoile le quitte en 2009 alors qu’il est victime d’un accident de moto lors d’un rallye en Auvergne. Touché à la colonne vertébrale, il est évacué par hélicoptère.
En 2011, il se lance un nouveau défi : concourir dans la transat Jacques Vabre en compagnie de Marc Tiercelin.
