Athlète de tous les records, il a été le premier homme à être classé numéro 1 mondial à la fois sur 200 et 400 mètres, le premier homme à gagner les deux épreuves aux Jeux olympiques et le premier homme à remporter des médailles d’or olympiques consécutives sur 400 mètres. Au cours de sa carrière, Michael Johnson a battu les records du monde du 200 m et du 400 m. Il a pris sa retraite en l’an 2000 avec 4 médailles d’or olympiques et neuf médailles d’or de championnats du monde à son palmarès.
