La baronne Sayeeda Warsi est avocate, auteure, femme d’affaires et membre de la Chambre des lords depuis 2007. Elle a été la première des ministres britanniques de confession musulmane, Présidente du Parti conservateur (2010-12) et ministre rattachée au ministère des Affaires Étrangères (2010-14).
Fille d’un ouvrier immigré, Sayeeda Warsi a accédé en 2004 au poste de conseillère du chef du Parti conservateur, Michael Howard. Elle a été la plus jeune membre de la Chambre des lords en 2007, alors âgée de 36 ans, avant d’être nommée ministre en 2010.
Militante pour l’égalité et la laïcité, elle s’est rendue en 2007 au Soudan et a contribué à la libération de l’enseignante britannique Gillian Gibbons, alors jugée pour blasphème.
En 2010, Sayeeda Warsi a été photographiée sur les marches du n°10 Downing Street portant un shalwar kameez (tenue traditionnelle), lors de sa nomination en tant que présidente du Parti conservateur.
