Peter Gabriel est un chanteur-compositeur, un musicien et une personnalité engagée, devenu célèbre en tant que chanteur principal de la première formation du groupe de rock progressif, Genesis.
Après avoir quitté Genesis en 1975, Peter Gabriel s’est lancé dans une carrière solo avec son premier single, Solsbury Hill.
Le titre le plus célèbre du chanteur, Sledgehammer, a remporté neuf MTV Awards lors de la cérémonie des MTV Video Music Awards en 1987 et reste aujourd’hui le clip vidéo le plus diffusé dans l’histoire de la chaîne MTV.
Peter Gabriel a été le porte-parole de la world music tout au long de sa carrière.
Il a cofondé le festival WOMAD en 1982. Depuis, il a toujours continué à dénicher et à produire des artistes de world music, via son label Real World Records.
Il a également été un pionnier dans les méthodes de diffusion numérique de la musique, ayant cofondé OD2, l’un des tous premiers services dédiés au téléchargement de la musique en ligne.
Peter Gabriel a toujours été investi dans de nombreux projets humanitaires. En 1980, il dévoile Biko, un single anti-apartheid.
