Ingrid Betancourt est une femme politique franco-colombienne. En 1990, elle entre au Ministère des Finances avant d’être affectée au Ministère du Commerce Extérieur en 1992. Elle rejoint ensuite le Congrès Colombien jusqu’à sa candidature à la présidentielle colombienne en 2002, l’année de son enlèvement par les Forces Armées Révolutionnaires de Colombie (FARC). Elle est ensuite maintenue en captivité pendant plus de six ans dans la jungle amazonienne. Ingrid est finalement libérée le 2 juillet 2008 en compagnie de quatorze autres otages suite à une opération du service secret colombien.
Le 14 juillet 2008, Ingrid Betancourt reçoit la Légion d’honneur des mains du président français Nicolas Sarkozy lors de la garden-party de l’Élysée. Elle est ensuite nominée pour le Prix Nobel de la Paix et reçoit le premier prix de Femme de L’Année en 2008.
En 2012 elle s’inscrit à l’Université d’Oxford où elle poursuit un doctorat en théologie. Depuis sa libération, elle a écrit plusieurs livres.
